Donegal County Council honoured the five community initiatives who represented the county in the 2016 Pride of Place Awards at a special event in the Letterkenny Public Services Centre.
This event is being hosted to honour and acknowledge the groups’ dedication to their communities, their professionalism in all aspects of their work and their partnership with the council.
These five Donegal Community initiatives were nominated by Donegal County Council to partake in the all-island Cooperation Ireland IPB Pride of Place competition and are as follows:

Donegal County Council is committed to supporting active community groups who undertake initiatives to improve their communities and regions while recognising their involvement in all aspects of rural and urban regeneration, including promoting social cohesion, culture, heritage and environmental awareness.
Speaking at the event an Cathaoirleach Cllr. Terence Slowey said that “it is with pride, as Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council this year, that I am presenting the 2016 participating community groups with their certificates of acknowledgement for the wonderful work that they do. I firmly believe that it is essential that we recognise communities and volunteers across the county who give of themselves selflessly every day”.
Séamus Neely, Chief Executive of Donegal County Council stated that “We know the great work that is happening in the community every day. That is why we want to acknowledge the people involved. It is clear that working together and getting things done increases peoples’ pride in where they live and in turn helps build vibrant communities and make this county the best to live in”.
